Hey Delights!
I have been reading some really great books that fuel my life lately. And as I have shared in previous posts highlighting books I have read, for the most part nowadays I listen to books more than I actually read them. Granted I still buy some physical books because there are certain books that I just want to have a physical copy of. Like for example, Black Girls Rock. It’s full of profiles and images of some amazing black women and it just makes sense to me to have physical copies of that kind of book.
And because I signed up for the Book of The Month club, I periodically order and read physical books like the one I am holding, Queenie by Candice-Carty-Williams. It is in a nutshell modern black girl chic lit. And it is gooooddddttt! So, I do still do some physical books but for the most part it’s me and my audio books.
I also subscribed to Scribd a few months back and I have been listening to some pretty enjoyable books. I may put together a list of them but in the meantime, if you use my link, you can get 1 month free. They have magazines and non audio books also.

When I first started getting my book fix mainly via audio books I thought that I would really miss the engagement of physical books. But I have found over these past few years that I don’t. The fact that I am able to enjoy a greater amount of books trumps the need for just having physical books for me.
This year and in particular these last couple of months has been so much about personal improvement for me. And accordingly the majority of the books I have listened to and enjoyed have fit the theme. I have especially loved Girl Wash Your Face and Girl Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis. She has a very unique way of using her own story to inspire women. I could not be any more different from a person than I am from Rachel but I really connect with her approach.
I also listened to You Are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero, who has a whole You Are a Bad Ass series of books. She is more of well, bad ass with her approach but I like that. And I like my books to be varied, so I was able to take away really good nuggets from both authors.
And because I want to offer the best experience to my readers and followers, I have listened to Influencer by Brittany Hennessy multiple times. Birttany was one of the first to work in influencer marketing so she is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to helping bloggers and content creators share with their audience & build their brand.
Being in an introspective place & wanting to connect with & live more from my spirit, I also purchased Heart Talk by Cleo Wade. It’s a great collection of things to remember about life & love.
I also buy books that fuel my life by encouraging me to dig deeper and really examine how I am spending my time and energy. So I have several journal style books. Two that I love are Today I Affirm by Alexandra Elle aka Alex Elle of the famous Instagram account & 52 Lists for Happiness. They are very different and I like that they give me options depending on my mood/mindset.
On the flip side, I listened to D.L Hugley’s “How Not to Get Shot: And Other Advice From White People. I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard or shaken my head in disgusted agreement so much with a book before. Normally I find D.L. a bit obnoxious in general but I loved everything about this book & It’s a must have.
And of course I am all about supporting other black women, so I have purchased Michelle Obama’s Becoming and Elaine Welteroth’s More Than Enough: Claiming Space for Who You Are. Both of them inspire me but I haven’t actually finished listening to either one of the books yet. I just haven’t been in the space for them yet but I purchased them to support them and I hope to finish them soon.
These are just a few of the books that I have/am consuming that have fueled my life by inspiring me to examine how I live, love and work this year.

Yes, yes, yes! Thank you so much for these recommendations. I am looking for books to add to my 2020 book list. That affirmation one is most definitely going on there.

I have been wanting to read Girl Stop Apologizing and Girl Wash your face and I’ve heard such different reviews from everyone, but I just need to read it myself! And I have the 52 Lists for Happiness! I think you just gave me the push I needed to read the two books by Rachel.
Jaye says
Yeah you definitely have to read it for yourself. Like I said, she and her life are so different from mine but I definitely got some really good inspiration from both books.
