Hey Delights!
It’s finally kimono season! I love that you can throw one on & dress up anything even workout clothes! I love the floral print on this one, it really pops against the black. Anyway, I want to talk to you a bit about self care. Self care is defined as “the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health” Do you practice self care? Do you feel pressured to practice self care? Has your idea of self care changed in our social media driven era?

I ask this because I have been seeing a lot of articles and posts on social media about what self care consists of. Self care is very personal. So it is so odd to me when I see folks almost shaming others for what they tag and deem as self care. I think what these self declared self care experts don’t seem to get is that what may seem frivolous to one person could be life altering for another person.
So whatever self care LOOKS & FEELS like for you, DO IT and don’t get caught up in all the talk surrounding it from outside of YOU.
Yesterday at the spur of the moment I went for a massage at Haji Healing Salon. It opened last year to “support communities in becoming radically healthy – one person at a time by integrating wellness practices, into a practical, healing lifestyle”. I love that. And I especially love that it is in the hood, where it truly is needed most.
For a long time now, going for massages regularly has been something that I have said I wanted to do because of the challenges that I face dealing with chronic pain. Now I am no longer putting off the things I need & I grateful to have the means to be able to give that to myself and it is something that I will definitely be doing as a part of my self care on a regular basis.
Here are some of the other things that I do for self care.
I meditate. I shared one of my meditation playlists here.
I take epic, long baths
I don’t watch a lot of television.
I stay aware but don’t take in a lot of the craziness surrounding politics
I read/listen to books
I follow amazing, inspirational people on social media like Glo Atanmo
