Hey Delights!
Reading has always been a great love of mine and this summer I have listened to quite a few books. And with Fall approaching, although I am ready for it, I still feel a little nostalgic about summer, so I have put together a late summer reading list.
And while as I mentioned here, my tendency now is to go with audio books on Audible, I recently joined the Book of the Month Club, so I will be reading more physical books. And while I will always love the physical pages of a book, with the way my life is and how fast time feels like it is passing by, I am just happy to take in the stories however I can get them in.

Anyway, the books that I have chosen for my late summer reading list are books that are probably a little heavier in subject matters than your normal summer reads. They tend to lean towards books about the challenges we face in relationships with ourselves and others. And while that is the overarching theme, that does not mean that there won’t be things to laugh out loud at because there will be, but I guess I am just in a season for deep digging within myself and the people and things I allow into my world.
I will do more in dept reviews of the books in future posts but here are my selections:
Sing Unburied Sing by Jesmyn Ward (I got this book from Book of the Month Club and have started reading it and so far I hate the mom, love the grandpa and the lead character)
How Not to Get Shot – And Other Advice from White People (I finished this a few weeks ago and it is hilarious, sad & riddled (pun intended) with truths as only D. L Hugley can serve them up).
The Air You Breathe by Frances De Pontes Peebles (I got this one from Book of the Month Club also but have not started it yet).
The Awkward Thoughts of W. Kamau Bell:
Tales of a 6′ 4″, African American, Heterosexual, Cisgender, Left-Leaning, Asthmatic, Black and Proud Blerd, Mama’s Boy, Dad, and Stand-Up Comedian (I finished this a month or so ago. I ran across W. Kamau Bell on twitter and ended up watching his Nextflix special and it motivated me to check out the book.)
So there you have it. It’s a short list but full of books that will definitely be perfect for curling up on the couch or soaking in the tub and immersing yourself in.
