The Purge: One a day
I am in the midst of a major spring cleaning and apartment redo and I don’t know about other folks but the older I get the more I need to get rid of.
And when I don’t respond to this internal need I suffer the consequences in many ways..
For one I am finding especially as of late, being ‘a collector of things’ is becoming at times more of a chore than a pleasure.
As my spring cleaning has progressed I have been getting a bit perturbed that I am really only making a dent in the much needed for my sanity’s sake purge of the collections.
Yesterday, I was packing my gym bag and could not find one of my shoes and that was just the last damn straw.
I am also one of those girls who has things with the tag still on them that I purchased eons ago or things that I have worn once and know I will never wear again, which is in itself at this point is major aggravating!
Recently I was reading Make Under My life and Jess wrote about how she was going to undertake a “Throw out Fifty Things Challenge” spurred on by the Gail Blanke book.
It’s a really great premise, to basically release things to open up to things.
So I have decided I would take the idea to another level, one that would fit the scope of my issue and remove at a minimum one thing a day from my place.
And while I am sure it will turn out that I am purginng more than one thing a day because I have already collected bags of stuff, I am starting out with saying a minimum of one thing because I know me.
If a non fun task, especially a domestic task takes too much energy I will hate it because I am not a domestic chick and I would rather do almost anything else.
I am gonna start off slowly and thankfully there are several of those huge donation bins within blocks of my flat so I can just take a bag of things and chuck it easily.
Some of the new unworn items and the rarely worn may end up in ReThrifted but most of it will hit the bins.
With that being said…the long overdue, totally needed…
begins..
