chalet nights…and the highest of heights
i had the greatest pleasure of being invited to attend a evening of food, drinks and ice skating a couple of weeks ago.
the fine folks at The Peninsula Chicago invited a group of us to their restaurant Pierrot Gourmet to sample their new special swiss themed menu.
this special menu will be offered every thursday night thru the end of march and i would highly recommend it.
it consists of a salad with a wonderful dijon dressing, three cheese fondue…uh can you say HEAVEN!, mountain bread (i couldn’t get enough!), juniper berry-smoked speck (which is a type of prosciutto and i don’t eat meat but my dinner partner loved it) and delicious pickled veggies, which actually surprised me by how good they were, as i don’t eat much that is pickled…
the dinner was capped off with a lovely glass of eau-de-vie brandy, which i had never had before and it was really good!
i also loved how they decorated it to really feel like you were away at a great little european chalet…
so besides just being really delicious and the great atmosphere, the dinner is crazy affordable and only $19 per person w/a 2 person minimum.
for the finale of the evening, we were taken for a tour of the John Hancock Observatory and ice skating in the rink that they recently installed there.
the Observatory is of course a huge attraction here in chicago, which oddly enough i hadn’t visited in years, so was a particularly special treat, especially considering how clear the sky was and how magnificent the views were..
we were treated to more goodies, baked goat cheese w/tomato-basil sauce, a charcuterie and cheese assortment, fabulous drinks, the SKYY High cocktail and the Hawks Cup, two of their exclusive cocktails and gelato.
i loved it when we went out on the skywalk! the experience of being outside a thousand feet up was pretty exhilarating (as you can see from the pic of paige leaning in against the wind!!!)
i didn’t cuz i suck at it, but some of the group went ice skating and it was definitely fun to watch…LOL
sadly my cell phone camera didn’t capture some of the images as well as i would have liked but thankfully i had my flipcam with me!
