{Life} New Year, New Things #3 – Seek Adventures

The other day I finally made it to the post office to get my mail and there were all these people sitting around in the passport section and I was reminded of how much I, for one, need to get a passport, and two, how much I want to go on lots of adventures to put some stamps in said passport when I get it.

Traveling has always been one of my deepest desires but there always seems to be one thing or another that gets in the way of doing more of it.  For example, I had the most awesome airbnb rental booked in San Francisco where I planned to attend the ifabbo conference back in October and had to cancel/forfeit all of it because my mother was having surgery. Obviously my mother takes precedent over a blog conference but I was really looking forward to that trip.
Boo hoo…
Anyway for 2014, I have resolved to not allow anything to stop me from traveling. Even if it is a short trip to a neighboring state, I am going to make sure that I get out there and bask in the renewal and inspiration that my spirit always feels when I travel.
One of my must go places on the list for 2014 is Paris, France.
It has always been my dream to live there but as we know, getting a visa to stay there any amount of time feels like the equivalent of giving DNA, so, I will settle for a visit…for now ;).
I took French back in high school but it was an extra credit class I put myself in for some reason which was held at first period and J’ai rarement fait il so, I have apped up and am studying the language because there is nothing worse in my mind than going somewhere and not being able to communicate effectively.
So far, I am using babbel and duolingo (which was referred to me by @kimmoym on twitter) and I am finding them both very helpful, especially the fact that I have to type our words and sentences and speak them into the app to check how well I have mastered them. And the convenience of being able to study while in transit is a huge bonus!
What did we do before we had these smartphones?
Anyway, I am have also immersed myself in lots of sites like Complete France, Paris in Four Months, The Hip Paris Blog, etc., to learn as much as I can, as I like to feel and experience cities as much like a local as possible.
Also, I had a year end brunch with a few of my girls and all we could talk about is travel. If all goes according to plan, this will be a very exciting wheels up kinda of year!!
Are you planning to travel more? What is your dream destination?
