{Life} New Year, New Things #7 – Tick Off The List
Who doesn’t have a list of things that they want to do before they leave the planet? I know I do, and it is LONG!
In the past few years, I have already ticked off some of the items on my list, like going white water rafting, something that always intrigued and terrified me because I have a water fear and although I took lessons, I can not swim because of it but I made myself do it anyway.
And of course the first run out our boat flipped.
Sure I panicked for a few seconds but then my inner I am woman hear me roar came to life and I grabbed onto my girl LaToya and got it together and had a blast!
I also went horseback riding and it was the most lovely thing, although my face when I first got on the horse might indicate otherwise AND I was wearing the most inappropriate clothes because I was doing my Rockin 10 for 30 Challenge (which I am doing again this year AND would love to have you ladies join in on…deets to follow)
The remaining things on the list includes experiences like going snowshoeing & snowboarding, having my own office space, of course traveling to certain places (as noted here) and so many other fun things.
But the thing is of course how to go about ticking the experiences off the list feels like more of a challenge at times than the actual things on the list.
I have wanted my own office space/studio for the longest time and even tried the co-op work space thing last year. And while it was a great space that I had 24 hour access to and even referred to a friend who started working his photography business out of it, it just didn’t work for me for a couple of reasons.
For one, it was a shared space. And I am honest enough with myself to acknowledge that I like to set the tone of my work space, i.e., if I want it quiet I want it quiet and alternately, if I want to blast music and dance around another day, then that’s what I want.
And two, the location. While the space was located in a really cool area and awesome loft building, it just really wasn’t all that convenient for me. I use public transit and it was on a route that doesn’t run nearly as often as I would like.
So now I am looking for a space where I can have both the privacy I want and a convenient location.
Joe thinks that a space of my own is not a really good use of money right now because I am just expanding my current business and starting a new one but I disagree and I was reading this article on Well+Good on Starting Before You Are Ready and it totally synced with how I am currently feeling.
The author, Marie Forleo notes:
“There’s a secret you need to know: the world’s happiest and healthiest women never ‘feel ready’ to make a bold move—they just go,”
Starting before you’re ready will put you in a place that pulls you forward and forces you to step up, so you’ll no longer be on the sidelines paralyzed by fear and perfectionism
And I thought how true is that? How often has life shown me, that when I move, the universe moves in my favor?
If you don’t challenge yourself, how do you grow? I am not afraid of failure. I am not afraid of success either.
So, I am moving forward with getting the office space because life waits for no one.
And after all this crazy snow that we have been getting, I am also going snowshoeing.
