{Travel} Airbnb Oasis in The Big Easy #JetSetCurves
After being completely blown away by Beyonce’s performance at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards, instead of kicking myself for not buying tickets to see her when she brought her Formation Tour to Chicago, I went online and to see where else she was playing.
And of all the dates that were coming up, I knew the one I wanted to go to was the New Orleans stop. Partly because I hadn’t been there since December of 2014 & felt I was way overdue for a trip. But also because I knew being in NOLA with it’s old world vibe & the history embedded in its’ streets would revitalize me.
And isn’t that why we travel? To come home feeling renewed and inspired? And I definitely was not disappointed. Besides Bey doing what she does giving me a little more sass in my ass, I stayed at the most wonderful & unexpected Airbnb property.
Now I will start this off by saying that this property is not for everyone. The bathroom is shared by this and one of the other three room options at this property, although I never once had to wait to use it.
And there is an event space behind the property that gets loud on certain nights. I was jamming in my room to the live band and felt like I was marching in a New Orleans parade but of course that wont work for some people.
The owners, Neil & Nancy live in the 3 story townhouse on the property and while I only met Nancy briefly, Neil was absolutely great. He even ended up driving me to Beyonce’s concert because his daughter came to town to see it also. And I can not tell you how much I appreciated that because getting to/from the venue would have definitely been a headache with the traffic and crowds.
Upon entering the space, you are greeted by the gorgeous courtyard garden. It was lovely to sit out there in the morning, reading my tablet & relaxing, drinking tea (provided by the hosts) and planning my adventures for the day.The Airbnb spaces are in the 2 story former slave quarters. Yes, slave quarters. I have to tell you that that gave me pause for a moment when I first read it and honestly, also for a bit when I was there, as I was taking it all in. But it is a factual part of the history of America and the property.
The Courtyard room that I stayed in is situated in the old kitchen with the original cooking hearth still in it, where they have created a small dressing table nook and it has an old world vibe mixed in with modern amenities, like the small fridge stocked with some nice little extras.
This was my first Airbnb experience and I loved my stay here and it has set the bar very high for any future stays. And if you are looking for an Airbnb spot in New Orleans to stay in that is unique and full of character with fabulous hosts, this could definitely be a great option for you.
