{#JetSetCurves} Miami: Our Stay @ Hotel Gaythering

I am that girl who seeks out the newest & sometimes smallest hotels when I travel, so the Hotel Gaythering with just 25 rooms and it’s quirky decor is my kind of a place.

But unfortunately along with that cuteness comes the fact that the Hotel Gaythering is apparently also a popular Friday & Saturday night hot spot.

And you know how people always say that there’s a first time for everything? Well Hotel Gaythering is the first time in my 45+ years of life that I have called the police to come to a hotel.

Yes, you read that correctly. But we will get back to that.

Hotel Gaythering is a lovely property set within a residential neighborhood away from the hustle & bustle but an easy walk to Lincoln Road and all the fabulous shops, restaurants, etc that make it the destination that it is.

We arrived at the property and check in went smoothly and we were ready to drop our luggage and explore.

Check out this video of our fabulous room. Oh and this trip took place in February, hence the weather & rugrat birthday references.

Isn’t it a cool space?  Now back to my calling the police. Sigh…

I always read lots of reviews when I am trip planning because I really like to see how a variety of people describe their experiences. So the noise from the bar at Hotel Gaythering has been mentioned in numerous reviews online so I assumed that some noise from a bar should be expected. What I did not expect was that the noise at the front entrance under the rooms of paying customers would be as loud as it was.

Basically they were having a party on this front lawn. Under my room.

And this was/is/will always be completely unacceptable to me. My two calls to the front desk were met with an employee feigning surprise as if they were not aware of all the noise and faux reassurance that they would address it.  So at around midnight I did what you do when people are basically infringing upon your (paid) personal space, I called the police.

And I waited. The revelers were still getting their party on for almost another hour and so I called the police again. By then it was already after 1am and the bar closes at 2am so the noise ceased shortly after.

Now I am not new to hotels and I know some noise can be expected. I have also been at a hotel where folks were fighting and almost called the police but security intervened. But it was obvious that the staff at Hotel Gaythering was not interested in containing the noise. This all happened on our Friday night stay. Saturday night was much quieter which is a good thing because I was definitely prepared to call the police much earlier than I did the night before.

If the Hotel Gaythering wants to be party central on certain nights then perhaps there are certain rooms that they should not book because not everyone comes there to play, some of us book hotel rooms to sleep in.

#JetSetCurves Travel Score:

Location: A+ I love being close to the action without actually being in it. If your desire is to be on South Beach & Collins Avenue, note the Hotel Gaythering is on the complete opposite side of town. But it is a quick walk to Lincoln Road Mall.

Property: A The property is cool and modern. Our rooms were clean and well maintained by the cleaning staff during our stay, although thankfully my kid ran into a room attendant because otherwise we would not have known that you need to write on the board on the door to let the staff know that you need service. This was not shared by the staff at the front desk.

Amenities: C As this is basically a gay male hotel, most of the amenities are centered around them, so we obviously did not partake. They include a jacuzzi, steam room, dry sauna and hamam.

We stayed in a double king room. The beds were super comfortable. The water pressure in the shower had me having to almost kick my kid out of it, she luxuriated so long. The rooms include: Air Conditioning, Free WiFi and a host of other standard amenities. Note: The hotel does not have parking and it is located in a residential neighborhood, so I am not sure how parking works.

Ambiance: C Obviously the partying without a single care about your paying hotel customers is a huge deal breaker but other than that, the hotel’s bar/front desk area was inviting and well kept.

All this said, I would stay at this hotel again but only if I had a room away from the main entrance.
