Just Curves: The Activewear We Have Been Waiting For!

Hey Fabs!

I was introduced to this new curvy girl active wear brand Just Curves via a member of one of my FB groups and I am crazy excited about it! Just Curves is an active wear brand for women from sizes 10-28 that is all about being fashionable but also comfortable & supported while you get your workout on.

Check out my review of the ONEder Suit HERE!

I immediately went to the Kickstarter campaign that the brand has launched to sign up to support it and had to get to know the woman behind the brand because she is obviously my soul sister and knows my woes.

I was sent the mesh version of the ONEder Suit (rocking it here), which I will review on another post but I have already worked out in it several times and ladies I LOVE IT!

More on that to come but first, I got a chance to chat with the lady behind the brand, Yolanda
Williams and here is some of our conversation.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jaye: Good Morning Yolanda!
Yolanda: Good morning!  How are
you?
Jaye:  I am great. How are you?
Yolanda: I’m well, thank you!
Jaye: Glad to hear it. I was so excited when I saw your Kickstarter. I
saw the ONEder Suit and I was instantly on board because I love working out but
I hate the sometimes struggle with active wear.
Yolanda: Thanks so much! That’s the reason I created the ONEder Suit.
Jaye: You describe Just Curves as a “collection of fashionable,
figure-flattering pieces that combine the support of shape wear, the function
of active wear, and the fun of street-wear”, how did all of this come
together?
Yolanda: Well, I was tired of trying to find cute active wear that
actually fit me properly most of the time, if it was cute, it didn’t fit right
and if it fit right, it wasn’t cute.
Jaye: So you decided to take matters into your own hands? I love that!
Yolanda: This was something I always wanted to do, so when I was laid off
in October from my job of 5 years, I decided to take a leap of faith and go for
it.
Jaye: Now what all did that involve. I mean fashion production is…well
a huge production.
Yolanda: Yes, it is…and it was very hard doing it alone and without any
experience.  I worked with some designers
to help me draft ideas and had contacts from FIDM that gave me a few production
referrals from there I just researched, sourced fabrics, and started making
samples.
Jaye: And when did you start?
Yolanda: I started the company, Curvidence Enterprises, LLC in August
while I was still working, and attended a few trade shows but didn’t get
serious until late October.  After I was
laid off, I was immediately hired somewhere else to do their social media
(that’s my background) but I was NOT happy.
Jaye: And when did you have your first samples?
Yolanda: I knew I just took that job out of fear and that I should have
been working on my business, so I quit that job after 3 weeks and had my firs
sample finished by Nov. 1st.
Jaye: Awesome. So your unhappiness has turned into this awesome new
line, Just Curves.
Yolanda: Yes! It’s super exciting!
Jaye: You currently offer the ONEder Suit and the other leggings in
neutrals and an animal print, are you planning to offer brighter colors and
prints? I love my bright colors, especially for working out.
Yolanda: Me too…and I can’t wait to feature some in the upcoming summer
collection
Jaye: Are you working on that already?
Yolanda: I just wanted to start with neutrals to test the market a bit. Yes,
I am actually showing in the Indie fashion show for FFFWeek.
Jaye: Awesome!
Yolanda: There will be a lot more fashionable pieces that are brighter
and bolder!
Jaye: What has been the response from women who have actually already
worn your pieces?
Yolanda: They love it! It’s so awesome to hear them talk about it. There
are about 6 more pieces (that will release soon) that includes some cute
high-waist tights that are so comfortable you won’t want to take them off.
Jaye: Oh really? Nice. Now I know your site talks a bit about the
different fabrics. How did you go about choosing them?
Yolanda: Yes…the fabric is super soft and comfortable, with a pretty
high spandex content. I wanted to make sure that the fabric was comfortable,
yet had compressive qualities.
Jaye: I ask because I recently posted about active wear and the whole
thigh rub and wear came up.
Yolanda: Yes! It’s hard to find fabric that won’t do that.  All fabric will have some pilling but it’s
about finding fabric that doesn’t wear easily.
Jaye: Yeah, I have found a lot of the compression pieces are better at
that.
Yolanda: I found some fabric that is light-weight so it’s not hot but
also heavy enough so it’s not see through. It’s sleek and feels good against
the skin plus it’s moisture wicking.
Jaye: Yes moisture wicking is so important.
Yolanda: Yes, I do not sweat pretty..LOL!
Jaye: LOL…you are not alone. Are you planning to offer sports bras
or bike shorts at some point?
I can imagine sports bras are so hard to
make…great fits are so hard to find.
Yolanda: YES! I have the hardest time finding sports bras in my size that
last and are comfortable so this is something I definitely want to make.  I just want to work with the right people to
help me produce a high-quality bra.
Jaye: Yes, I think that is my toughest battle when it comes to active
wear.
Yolanda: So I’m taking my time with this one…it has to be right. I just
don’t want a bra costing more than the pants so I’m doing my homework.
Jaye: This is so smart, because it is such a big challenge.
Now I know the Kickstarter campaign is up and
running but if someone went on your site and preordered when would they get the
products?
Yolanda: No, I’m only offering pre-ordering through Kickstarter. I am
considering opening up the website to preorders for some of the other pieces
that won’t be on Kickstarter but for now everything on there is on Kickstarter
so if you press pre-order you are redirected
I’ve also decided to expand the size range to
include size 10/12.
Jaye: Oh you have?  Why did you
do that?
Yolanda: Yes, so many women contacted me and told me their stories of
being a large but still having issues with fit due to their body shape. I know
women who are a 12 but have bigger bottoms or stomachs and yoga pants don’t fit
them correctly.
Jaye: Yoga pants be playing when you got extra in the middle.
Yolanda: LOL…yes they do.
Jaye: Ok a couple last things. When do you expect the summer collection
to go live?
Yolanda: I expect the summer collection at the very beginning of June.
I’m still working on the shopping cart setup but when it’s done, I’ll start
accepting pre-orders so maybe in a few weeks…
If the Kickstarter is successful, I will allow
people to choose between the original and the mesh version.  Since I’ve
gotten such positive feedback, I’m excited to do some experimenting with
color-blocking and prints.
My color pallet for the new pieces is bright
coral, neon green, bright blue.  I would
love to do a grey one with pink mesh and piping or bright blue with neon coral
or yellow mesh and piping.
Right now, the color options are black and
grey but new colors will be available in June
Jaye: Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to chat.
Yolanda: Thank you, this is my first interview ever!
Isn’t this exciting?
I know I am totally hyped about it and I hope that you will support Yolanda and Just Curves because it is so NEEDED!
I feel it myself and hear it from ladies all the time about how we need active wear that will work for our bodies, so here is an entrepreneur who is working to bring exactly that to us.
There are various levels that you can pledge at but of course you want to pledge at a level that will get you a ONEder Suit and trust me, you will not regret it. It’s really an awesome piece.
