{Shopping} There’s an App for That!

I started writing this post a couple of months ago and since Black Friday and
all the holiday shopping is upon us, I am resuscitating it from the drafts.

If you follow me on twitter, you have probably seen me tweet pictures of products and deals, etc while out and about hitting up the shops.

Earlier this year I put myself on a shopping budget and while I haven’t diligently adhered to it all the time, it did set me on a pattern of researching items more to make sure that I was getting the best bang for my bucks.

One way that I have been able to do this with pretty good success is with a few apps on my phone. I have quite a few on my phone but these are my top three for shopping while out and about.

First of all, when I walk into any store I initially check two applications for deals or coupons, foursquare and shopkick. Then when I am in the store and come across products I am interested in, I scan them to compare prices with ShopSavvy.

My foursquare check-ins are a pretty accurate window to my favorite stores (although i don’t always
check in while at them), the patterns are  very clear. And stores like Macy’s, one of my favs, regularly feature deals on the app.

Because I hit these places up a lot, I have a pretty good idea of not only their layouts (like the best bathrooms) but also when and where to get their best deals and I also like to leave a lot
of “tips” some totally ranting  ;).

You should of course also follow your favorite brands, stores and malls, etc on their social
media platforms for their deals as well. Just this morning Yorktown Mall here in Illinois
tweeted one of their foursquare deals.

ShopKick has been pretty great because in addition to deals, you get “kicks”
just for walking in your favorite spots and “kicks” can be used to redeem rewards.

Just today, I downloaded a Starbucks gift certificate. Feeding all my addictions?
Win..win!!

They also have features like the “little Black book”. You swipe thru it for savings

ShopSavvy does all of the above with some additional wicked features. You can scan
product codes and compare prices for it online and locally. And I am always amazed at
how drastic the price differences can be.

You can also shake the app and it will randomly search for products and if you have a
barcode or QR code to scan, you can search my type, name, etc.
You can also purchase items found online directly via the apps wallet feature.
BONUS: Also, RetailMeNot recently updated their app and added location based coupons.
I haven’t tried them out yet but plan to this week, so I can’t give too much feedback about it
but if it’s anything like their website, I think it will be a great shopping tool.
So, these are my top shopping apps, do you have any?
