{travel} Weekend Trip Packing

I took a trip to NYC this weekend and making this trip several times a year has really shaped how I pack.

For one, getting around NYC can be exhausting at times, with the multitude of trains & buses I sometimes have to take to get where I am going and of course the thousands of people who come along for the ride O_o.

I remember when I moved to NYC almost a decade ago. I had just paroled myself from corporate and convinced Joe that we should just do it and we arrived in the dead of summer and it was a serious rude awakening. We had all of these humongo suitcases and were schlepping them on trains, off trains, up ramps, down ramps, up stairs, down stairs..it was a nightmare.

So, as the years have gone by, I have changed the way that I pack and the last two trips especially have been minimalist to the max.

Here’s what I packed this time.

Of course traveling the minimalist way requires that I am very selective and pack pieces that I can mix and match.

This time around I wore a dress to the airport because I ran thru the Tim Gunn luncheon at Union League Club to meet the man and grab a copy of his new book, Tim Gunn’s Fashion Bible. I also traded in the normal hooded jacket or sweater that I travel in for a blazer because of this event.

I switched into a pair of my must have for travel: leggings and a tunic dress for the actual flight.

When I arrived in NYC late (thanks American Airlines) I just switched tops and put on the lace number (similar), from the cape series posts & put my blue blazer (similar) back on.

Side note: seeing pics of myself under bright lights in the lace top made me laugh out loud…you could really see all my business…oh well…those pics to come…

My bag of choice is my eloquii tote (c/o). And I tend to alternate between the roll method and the layering/fold in method of packing.

The rolling method is pretty self explanatory. The layering/fold method is where you essentially lay the clothes flat and alternate them so they end up in either an “I” shape or “t” shape and place your small items, shoes, etc in the center and then fold them in.

This time around I rolled when I left the for NYC and layered/folded for the trip back home.

Some of the other items in my “tote-case”:

-Gold coated jeans (similar)
ASOS Curve thigh split skirt
-Kiyonna Lace Dress (similar)
ASOS Curve metal plate belt
Booties
-Underthangs
-Cosmetetries
Clarisonic c/o

Taking this limited amount of stuff has really made moving around NYC so much easier.

How do you pack for a weekend away?
