Why do we do it?

Purging Curvatude continues and today while I was in my basement storage I came across a couple of items, tags still intact, that I had completely forgotten that I even owned.

{$50 LB Dress}

{$34 Cacique bra}

And I just had to shake my head.

I am sure this will be a frequent occurrence as I move forward with this purge and while I am geeked that the dress I came across is perfect for me to wear today, I am still perturbed at myself.

I know I am not the only woman with closets and or storage areas full of never worn clothing and it just makes me wonder why do we do it.

I know that I for one really used to have a “shopping issue” and it didn’t help that I had cohorts.

When I worked downtown, lunch was never complete unless it included a “lil shopping excursion”. So we rarely took just an hour for lunch and it did not help that we worked for a really big company that stores like New York & Co used to send coupons to for the employees shopping enjoyment as a perk.

So, while I think that for me, my shopping madness back then was in some ways a part of the social life of the crew that I hung with, the only “logical” explanation that I have for it now is that I just love shopping.

And it’s not just for clothes. I love home goods also and crafts and…you name it..I got a lot of passions and I over the years I never hesitated to feed them.

And while I don’t think that I am an “emotional shopper”, I do enjoy the thrill of the hunt. It’s one of the reasons why I love spending hours alone in thrift stores.

So, for me this purge is really going to turn into a really big thing. Just in this short amount of time, I already feel lighter. I have a bag sitting at the door now of things that I am going to drop in a donation bin when I leave and its cathartic.

Anyway, are you one of those girls who ends up with unworn, forgotten clothes in their closet?

Please, do tell.
