There are a lot of pictures in this post because I had a wicked full Sunday..
For one, I attended the Green Festival here in Chicago and while I am sure most people think that its all plants and blah, you would have been pleasantly surprised.
There was a huge variety of companies present. There were some of the usual suspects, like Clif Bar but there were also a bunch of really cool fashion, jewelry and beauty vendors there.
During my short walk thru, I purchased this cool necklace from
Uga Beads. It is made from recycled paper by women and people with HIV in Uganda.
Besides the fact that I love the way that it looks, especially the little pendent with the face on one side and “EMPOWER ME” on the other side, I love what they stand for.
It’s a really long strand of beads but I doubled it in the pictures. I would rock it this way or just hanging long, it would depend on what type of neckline I’m wearing.
I really enjoyed this Festival and here is a very small sampling of some of the people and other products I came across..
I love this woman’s spunk. Her name is Dawn Joi and she is funny and in your face.
I feel so out of touch with the fact that she is a local talent and I have
NEVER heard of her but she has quite the
resume..
The t-shirts I took a picture of are from her JoiTees line…they come in sizes up to 3X and they are made to make you laugh and to empower you..{that was a huge theme in many different ways at the Green Festival}
The “my coochie…” tee was given life because she said that she was celibate and was dating a guy who I guess was trying to pressure her into doing the nasty…LOL!
Anyway, there are plenty more tees with a variety of sayings on her
website…
i love the “meat makes u musty” one!
LOL
These next two pictures are of some of the goods from Synergy Organic…
I love the easy vibe and wide range of colors and cuts…
Next up the very stylish and so
NOT fanny pack in the old your dad used to wear theme vibe,
Pax4u.
I love them…there are so many times when I am out and I wish I had a bag I could use to free up my hand by just throwing it across my body or my hips even and just do my thang…
At first glance I did not realize what this coat was made of but upon further inspection I realized that it contains old gloves and food wrappers, etc.
Crazy right?!
In a way it’s kinda cool but in another way…its kinda gross, especially that dingy looking glove..lol..
Unfortunately I forget to note who the company’s name.
These lovely jewelry pieces were from a company called Baraka…
very earthy and vibrant and rich in style and variety..
Can you believe that these
bags are made from inner tubes?
They are so fab!
They can be found along with a host of uber cool products at Global Exchange
They totally look like leather!
Also local favorite
beeline was there.
You may have seen their products in Wholefoods.
They make their goodies from beehives housed on the westside of Chicago in the North Lawndale community.
WESTSIDE!
But I am so aggravated that I had already spent my “self imposed daily allowance” so I didn’t pick up any of their products but you MUST check them out if you haven’t already.
I started this incredibly beautiful day off noshing with the “Brunch Bunch”.
We went to
Francesca’s Forno and as usual it was really great to just hang with this group of fierce, living it like it’s golden women!
There were 18 of us this time and of course there was fun, laughter and good eats!
And you know I had to have a nice drank during the festivities…
Mimosa’s FTW!
And did I mention that it was beautiful out…yes…well I need to say it again..
This was really a perfect day..I only wish that I had more of it so that I could have gone to the beach…
soon…soon.
Navy Pier
It was gloriously sunny out and I already have tan lines on my face from my sunglasses!
Oh and I almost forgot the delicious Divine Chocolate that I got..
it truly was divine..
