Be Great

Although Monday is the official celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I wanted to take a moment to repost some of what I posted last year about him and his legacy.

I highly recommend that you take a moment to visit his family’s official website.

I was struck by the excerpt from his sermon “The Drum Major Instinct” that started playing when you land on the home page.

In part he says…

“Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don’t have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don’t have to know Einstein’s “Theory of Relativity” to serve. You don’t have to know the Second Theory of Thermal Dynamics in Physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love, and you can be that servant.

Powerful and a reminder that no matter what your own current circumstances may be you still have value and worth that can be put to use to help someone else.

Especially at times like now, with everything going on in Haiti and other parts of the world.

Perhaps you can take a moment and think about the ways in which you too can Be Great!
