Hey Delights!
Just hoping in to wish you an amazing day & share a couple of things. I am back to meditating and making space & time for myself first thing in the morning and the effect that it has on my days has been amazing.

The other night I went to hear Glory Edim talk about her book Well Read Black Girl. The book is an anthology featuring some amazing authors and it is an extension of the website and social media platform that she created on after the response she kept receiving after her partner made her a t-shirt with “Well Read Black Girl” on it. The book starts with a piece from Jessmyn ward that I was instantly taken by after about 3 pages. So it has already made my list of top reads (peep more here).
But the main reason for this post is:
- To remind you to, especially at this time of year more than any other, take time for yourself. I actually hadn’t even planned to start back meditating although I had pondered on more than one occasion as to what made me stop doing so after months of connecting with myself that way. What I do know is that for me, meditation is something that my spirit does in various ways. So, I did not bemoan not spending that extended time in the morning too much but now that I am back into it, it is feeding me in beautiful ways. Maybe it’s because we are in the colder, darker months, I don’t know. I am not thinking much about it. I am just feeling it and going with it. So, I want to encourage you to also make space & time for yourself. Love on yourself. Unapologetically.
- Listening to Glory share her story and the birth of Well Read Black Girl really reminded me that we need to be more open. She had just moved to NYC and didn’t have any friends but every time she wore the t-shirt women would start talking to her. And it opened up her world in so many ways. It may not be really obvious but I am by nature a loner and somewhat shy (no one believes this) but I actually am. So it’s not always my nature to seek others and conversation. But I am working to do so more often because when I do, I always leave the moments having either learned something. Or having had a good laugh. Or just smiled. So, as easy as it is to close off when we are out in the world, trust me I know, I take public transit…ughh. I want to remind us all to make more eye contact. To maybe smile more (not at the creepy dudes tho). To say hello more. You get the picture.
Til next time.
xoxoxo
